Due to the increased use of straw mulch and its sometime limited availability, the Department is anticipating the increased use of wood fiber mulch. The Department has been made aware of inappropriate application rates of wood fiber mulch. There are different recommended rates of application based on slope and soils. In order to avoid a one-size-fits-all approach, the specifications are revised to ensure that contractors follow the manufacturer's recommended rates, and if necessary, make a second application to achieve those rates.
