Abstract:
Standard Specifications 572, 573, 574, 708-01 and 708-02 were issued under EI 05-038, and Standard Specification 657 was issued under EI 05-039. Both EIs were issued on 12/20/05. All of these new paint specifications were issued to improve the corrosion protection afforded new or refurbished bridges and incidentals painted on jobs let on or after May 4, 2006. Feedback from five paint seasons of work utilizing the new specifications have revealed issues that needed to be corrected or language that needed to be clarified. This EI addresses those issues. Due to availability issues associated with the potential health hazards of zinc chromate paint, it is being replace with a two coat polyamide epoxy paint system in Standard Specification 657.
